Lyndsay has worked in children’s residential care for the past 17 years. During the past five years she has been supporting children with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) and previous to that she catered towards children with learning difficulties for the length of 12years.
She holds a level 3 and 4 diploma in Children and Young People and a level 5 diploma in Leadership and Management.
Lyndsay enjoys her job and the challenges that come with it, she has been at 5ab Care for almost two years.
She was not always sure this was her calling; Lyndsay initially considered pursuing a career to become a mental health nurse. However, whilst she was getting her work experience at a school for children with learning difficulties, she realised she enjoyed the work and that it could have become something more permanent.
Lyndsay believes the challenges of the job can be hard if you don’t have the right staff team and she believes to be lucky to work with an amazing team. She describes going into work like ‘going home from home’. Her favourite part of the job is to see progress in children and help them become independent beings. Her ideal outcome would be to see children build good relationships, get a part-time job, their qualifications and make friendships.
Lyndsay is a very active person and outside of work she loves doing crossfit, going on holidays and watching television.
Her favourite aspect of 5ab Care is knowing that because it is a small organisation, children feel very safe as they know all the managers and directors. In fact, children often say to her that there’s a very homely feel at the home and they don’t feel like they are in a typical children’s home.
