Lauren Surridge

Registered Manager at River Lea House

Lauren’s background is in adult social care, in fact she holds her level 2 and 3 diploma in Health and Social Care, she has a level 5 diploma in Managing Home and Social Care and is currently working towards getting her level 5 diploma in Children’s Residential care.

She has been working in this field for six years, initially looking after young adults building on independence, then elderly people, but she mainly cared for adults with learning difficulties and mental health issues.

Lauren decided to move her focus and care for children because she believes if she can help them as children, hopefully they they will be better equipped for adulthood.

She is very passionate about her job and loves to help people. Going through childhood Lauren had personal experiences, family difficulties and dealt with people struggling with mental health. This led her to naturally choose this career path, Lauren worked as a support worker initially and worked her way up.

What motivates her is watching children achieve goals. Progress in children with learning difficulties can take some time, in some cases it could even take a year trying to teach them a skill like making their own bed. Seeing them reach small milestones is what drives Lauren.

During her free time Lauren enjoys going out for food and cooking. She describes herself as a big foodie.

Lauren is proud to be working at 5ab Care as she describes it as a value based company that provides good care for the right reasons.
