Bally Kumari is the Responsible Individual for 5ab Care. Bally has over twenty years- experience as a safeguarding specialist in the field of residential childcare. She has a proven track record of opening and developing new services. She is a strong, focused, and motivated leader. Her achievements during her career have included managing outstanding children’s homes within the private sector (The Priory Group).
Bally delivers high quality training and consultancy in the private and public sector and is a strong believer in the power of positive thinking in the workplace. She continually works to improve the culture in the ‘children looked after’ sector and collaborates with other organisations to implement change and challenge legislation to improve the outcomes for young people.
Bally has improved the induction process for teams and managers, working alongside colleagues has improved the monitoring systems, reviewing the process for referrals and recruitment, increasing management support and more specific training for our teams.
Bally currently works to ensure that the children’s homes she is responsible for remain safe and staff are highly trained and supported. Bally will liaise with Ofsted (Children’s homes governing body) where necessary and is a link between the homes and the placing authorities (customers).
Bally is also an experienced and established Regulation 44 inspector; within this role she visits children’s homes and residential schools (Children’s Homes Regulations 2015) as well as residential homes for young adults who are inspected by CQC (Care Quality Commission) and residential colleges in Wales where the governing body is CIW (Care Inspectorate Wales).
The focus is always placed on ensuring the best level of care is provided, equality and diversity is promoted, individuals are listened to and that safeguarding is at the forefront of all decision making.
Bally actively challenges the traditional stereotype of children’s homes, advocating for the change in use of language towards and with young people and promoting the approach of restorative care as a move from criminalising young people. Bally is committed to promoting the importance of cultural diversity within the social care.
Bally’s personal time is spent with family and friends, enjoying the beautiful welsh countryside where she currently lives, in addition, she enjoys going to festivals, the theatre, reading and baking.
