The Haven is situation in the heart of Derby with a great balance of green outdoor places to explore and transport links to the City centre. It is a two-bed home providing therapeutic care for young people with Emotional Behavioural difficulties. The Haven prides themselves on their homely, family orientated environment. The garden is perfect for summer BBQ’s and growing our own vegetables!
The home is a warm, welcoming and happy environment. A child said: “It is a peaceful home, and I would recommend it.” After being out of education for a significant period, the child has successfully re-integrated into school with a bespoke package of education being provided. This is significant progress.
The child who currently lives in the home reported feeling safe. She said: “The staff are always there for me, and there is always someone here who I can talk to.” Such positive relationships provide children with an additional layer of safety.
Another young person said: “The staff put everything in to help young people. I really do appreciate them.” Staff protect young people effectively. A young person said: “Staff understand my risks and are managing them the best they can. I think they know me better than I do.”
Child A
When A arrived at the Haven she had been out of education for almost a year, took part in risk taking behaviours which increased her CSE risk. Within a month she was back into full time education and making new friends. Along with the input from weekly therapy sessions we continued to complete key worker sessions regarding keeping yourself safe and setting targets to work towards independence whilst keeping yourself safe. A is now able to manage having a mobile phone with reduced supervision, time out on her own and continues to attend full time education.
